My Previous Theater Experience, Strengths/Weaknesses, and Goals

I have been involved in theater since I was in fifth grade. Theater is something that I really enjoy as a hobby and a creative outlet. My experience in theater has mostly been in musicals, but I also took the performing arts elective class my freshman year.  I have been casted in both lead and ensemble roles throughout my experience, but I really just enjoy being any part of the cast. One of my strengths with theater is that I really like to think about every aspect of the plot of the show and how the show will work while participating in the cast so I am able to make self directed decisions while acting that I feel enhance the performance. One of my weaknesses is that in my experience with speaking roles, I feel that several for several of these roles I have taken on similar personas, meaning I do not have much experience acting out a wide range of emotions without making my acting seeming too overdramatic. My main goal for this course to give myself space to relax and have fun with theater because theater is something that I like to do to let off steam. I'd like theater to be my creative outlet but I'd still like to put in lots of effort and expand my understanding of all of the aspects of theater. I'd also like to dive deeper into directing and writing because these are two fields of theater that I do not have much experience in but I am very interested in.
